Embedded Comments - .msg Extension files

Post by chieri »

Hello!

Would it be possible to embed descriptions/comments to .msg extension files?

I am a Graphic Designer actively using XNView. It has made my life so much easier! And if I hadn't of found this product, I’d be so swamped with millions of folders open. This has consolidated everything for me which is brilliant!

I would like to request/and or suggest adding the to adding “descriptions/comments” to .msg (outlook email files). This would make this product 100% efficient for our usage. Maybe I am asking too much?, but would be a nice feature :)

Not sure if you need to know why – but I don’t mind telling you.

The company I work for is paperless. Customers request and attach artwork with their instruction through email. these emails are saved to our server, evenly distributed between our graphic artists. This server acts as a backup (and is purged after several months). This also relieves the amount of emails Outlook can hold. The artist work from these email files - from the server & everyone in the art department can view, search, research and keep track of requests.

.msg brief embedded description would be ideal through xnview’s description/comment column. for all in the art department to see

Hope this makes sense.

Could this be possible?

You want to use an image-viewer to handle e-mails?

Have you tried the common usage of "descript.ion" files?

I know it sounds weird.

I am using XNview for multiple purposes.

To view, organize, and convert images and graphic files, move files from folder to folder, and to view the emails manually being saved into a folder that have the instructions to the artwork I'm managing.

XNView allows me to manage all this, despite it's purpose specifically for images. Which is brilliant and probably not intended for all these uses parse.

But to be able to add embedded comments to .msg extension would be great. I use describe.ion for personal notes. but if the WHOLE art dept could view the notes (embedded), then this would be the perfect program on this end, for our usage.

I know the likelihood of this happening (minimal), but i thought i'd see if it were possible knowing it doesn't quite go with the concept of the program. Or does it?

I have searched and searched for a program that does what the program does.

I have easy access to my most used folders - thanks to favorites. I love that i can view all files in "details" instead of just thumbnails (hate that about bridge, or connect). The "move to" is my favorite. It automatically remembers the folder i want to move my files to. Especially with the load of artwork we do on a day to day basis. Customers send in their logos to be redesigned and placed on mats.

I could go on and on. The search is perfect. I love that it also allows us to view our saved email .msg files that goes with our artwork we are designing/managing. Not to mention the rename box that doesn't disappear when i need to retrieve the rest of the info to rename the file. Annoying when we used to have to right click to rename files. It's simply perfect.

I'm surprised it's free. I hope to support soon with a donation.
