how can I prevent XnView to always jump in main monitor ?

Post by secarica »

I am using two monitors, on WinVista 64, and use XnView 1.98.x as THE picture viewer.

I open a picture, it opens in center of the main monitor. I move it on the second monitor. When I go to next or previous picture, XnView window jumps back in the center of the main monitor. The only way to keep it on the second monitor is to switch to full screen mode, but it's annoying and not always useful.

Is there any option to convince XnView to stay where I put it ?

I also wish it gives up in always opening in center of the monitor (main monitor included). There is an option that says "Remember last window position/size", but I don't see any difference with it checked or not checked.

Yes, in same session. I mean I simply go to a place where are several images (just the desktop, or other folder), double click over an image file, the image opens; I move the window with the opened image to the second monitor; by Page Down or Page Up (or by scrolling the mouse wheel, as this has next/back function) the next or previous image relative to the one first opened jumps to the center of main monitor.

Perhaps some particular config is to blame ? For example I keep "Fit image to desktop, large only", or the the tabs are OFF, or double clicking the image switches to full screen (tis is mainly as a workaround to get rid for the jump effect).

(under what circumstances should I see the "Remember last window position/size" option in action ?)

Ok, i think that the problem comes from 'Fit to desktop'

I forgot to mention that the jump occurs even when zooming at different level on same image (-/+ on keyboard, or zoom icons on toolbar or context menu).

Yes, and it no longer jumps. For example it works ok with "Fit image to window, large only" or with "Fit window to image"; however, on the later, checking the option "Force XnView to Fit Image" will turn back the jump effect.

Anyway, I can't use any other option except the buggy "Fit image to desktop, large only", because no other option fits my purpose. I came on XnView some time ago after using ACDSee 3.1 which came with my HP scanner, but then I moved to Vista and that version of ACDSee had some problems (and new ACDSee versions are too bloat to use).

Wish to get a proper fix for that jump effect, but anyway, thanks for the nice program even the way it is :)
