Database Filters

Post by orbspider »

Hi, here are my suggestions about filtering in Xnviewmp (I use 0.51)

1. filtering folders by categories in the Tree Pane
  • > a. The database result in the File List pane could show folder divisions (with folder location)
    > b. With an option to display a flat (no dividers) list or divided at folders
    > c. Folder dividers could display Name, Date, Location on disk, No. of files, Total disk usage for files etc

! filtering from a category first in Tree pane then holding that and opening a folder wouldn't work because selecting a category with 17.000 files will freeze the PC a long while!

2. filtering a selected folder with the Search field
  • > a. As one types in search field a drop-down list appears to select a category from
    > b. Multiple categories can be added to the search (perhaps like Google Drive tags, each with a cancel button)
    > c. Search criteria is not cancelled by moving to another folder
    > d. Search criteria is canceled by clicking the "clear" button, or by selecting a category in the Tree Pane

I'm not sure how categories and plain text search can be combined in one Search Field actually, unless its one or the other, or separate
3. filtering a selected folder with ratings/color ratings
  • > a. The filter should not cancel when moving to another folder of files
    > b. A "Cancel active filter" button to clear all filters that are active -category, rating, color rating.
For me, 1. would be helpful, particularly if there are duplicates of images (in different folders) of different sizes and I might need to choose the larger ones, so dividing the database result into folders would let me see where the ones are want are.

and 2./3. would be useful for filtering categories/rated files in a single folder of images without having to filter the entire database.
