REQ: More Compare Dialog Requests
Sorry for so many posts, but I just discovered the Compare Dialog and am very pleased with its potential.
A couple of more requests:
- It would be great to have a Compare button on the browser tool bar. I discovered Compare entirely by accident.
- The current compare feature is apparently a modal dialog. Could we have it in a tab instead? Please?
Thanks for considering these requests.
XNView 1.8 is really just a stupendous effort. Almost like an entirely different software. The earlier versions were very very good, but 1.8... wow! This new version will absolutely kill the competition.

Tab in XnView?- The current compare feature is apparently a modal dialog. Could we have it in a tab instead? Please?

Yes. Perhaps the tab could say "4 Compared" or "2 Compared" since a tab showing all of the compared filenames isn't practical.Tab in XnView?
On the other hand...
Maybe the best thing is to leave Compare as a modal dialog for a while and see what the forum as a whole thinks about enhancements to it.
Compare is so new, it's best use and configuration is not yet apparent.

Yes. But putting it in the toolbar would be even better due to long filenames IMO.xnview wrote:CRC display with the filename will be good?Danny wrote:A checksum display would be a good thing to have for me. Like a CRC32 checksum. That would tell you instantly if 2 (or more) files are exactly the same.

Is this really hexadecimal? I've tried about 20 pictures, and they all had CRC codes without any character A-E in it.xnview wrote:Sorry, i put it in hexaDanny wrote:I don't know what CRC value this is supposed to be but it's certainly no CRC32 value since that would be an 8-digit hexadecimal value. The one in XnView is a 10-digit numerical value though.
I wonder whether the CRC is really helpful. Perhaps I didn't understand the purpose of it, but I wonder whether a message box: "These files are identical." would be much more efficient.
In RC7 I can see letters a-f, now.
(I think the letters in hexadecimal should be uppercase).
I've started a new topic for John's issue "Toolbar button for "Compare...".

• Right, i.e. a SFV checksum in TC is uppercase :

- Besides, a MD5 should be better, although much longer :; Generated by WIN-SFV32 v1.0

- Here is lowercase, strangely… Maybe to shorten the line?26c4528ffb901cb5fe838299c9f3800b *XnView-win-full.zip
