Show drives in file list
To much more quickly navigate around, I find it very handy to have the drives in the file list at the bottom. I've been using ACDSee Classic for years now, and it's been EOL for yours, but this is one great feature from it. It would be awesome if XnView could have it, too.

Re: Show drives in file list
File list would look something like this:
Code: Select all
..
directory
directory
file.jpg
file.jpg
file.jpg
file.jpg
Local drive (C:)
Local drive (D:)

Nah, it's not the same. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Re: Show drives in file list
Hmm, I think I understood what you mean, but don't like it very much for various reasons. Main reason is that the file list no longer displays its actual contents. Contents and navigation is mixed, which might be pretty confusing especially for novice people (o.k., by default display of local drives could be turned off).
Local drives are listed in the folder tree. Is there a reason why you don't use the folder tree for switching inbetween drives?

1) It needlessly uses screen real estate.helmut wrote:Local drives are listed in the folder tree. Is there a reason why you don't use the folder tree for switching inbetween drives?
2) It takes extra fiddling to go to the file tree, as opposed to having them in the file list, where the focus usually already is.

O.k., now I got it: You don't use the folder tree at all and you have hidden it for that reason, right?thany2 wrote:1) It needlessly uses screen real estate.helmut wrote:Local drives are listed in the folder tree. Is there a reason why you don't use the folder tree for switching inbetween drives?

Re: Show drives in file list
Exactly
And to be in the clear: by "extra fiddling" I meant that I navigate through the application pretty much entirely by keyboard. And having to tab around frantically to get to the directory tree is too much. Also it takes more fiddling to select the right drive, because the directory tree also shows directories, and I don't navigate directories in a tree. I navigate those from the file list.
I guess my example is ACDSee Classic, which is what I'm (still!) using. If you can get your hands on it, you'll see what I mean. Alternatively, I could post a screenshot that shows my intent. Lemme know either way
