Broken file associations after uninstalling XnView

Post by billb »

I installed XnView 2 weeks ago. JPG and all other graphic formats opened okay with XnView. For other reasons I had to uninstall xnview.
After removal of XnView my HP Kayak desktop will not open any graphic files/extensions. i.e. JPEG, JPG, GIF etc. etc.

Sorry to say, but it looks like the culprit here is XNVIEW...

Can anyone shed some light as to analayzing, diagnosis and problem resolution of this problem. ?????

I would greatly appreciate your support.

Thanks Much!!!

Best Regards,

Bill

I suspect that the problem is file associations set by XnView which have not been restored by XnView properly. This can happen if you used the options dialog to associate files with XnView.

Please try the following steps:

1.) Install XnView, again. During installation, do not associate files with XnView. (Installing XnView may sound strange, but XnView stores the original file associations for later restoring in the registry. So we use XnView to restore them)
2.) In XnView open the Options dialog: "Tools->Options", Category "Associations". In the associations you should see a number of file formats checked and thus associated with XnView.
3.) Select the button "Restore all"
4.) Confirm the options dialog with "OK" and exit XnView.

Now, try whether you can open your files with HP Kayak desktop, again. If so, you can uninstall XnView. If not, please let us know, here.

We'll check whether XnView can be changed in a way that this does not happen.
