Hello,
I've got the following issue: I've used the rating system to rate one folder with ~10'000 pictures with 3, 4 and 5 stars. My plan would have been to then use the quite neat 'filter' or 'sorting' functionality to only show all 3+ or 5+ star pictures to friends (depending on interest/time). However after copying these pictures to another machine (e.g. notebook) I figured that XNViewMP is only using the DB rating in order to 'filter' and 'sort' pictures!
I'm pretty sure that XNViewMP is missing a functionality to import the XMP data to the internally used DB. Alternatively an option could control whether a user wants to use the internal DB for this purpose or rely on the XMP tags only (my preferred solution).
What do other people think about it? Or does someone has a workaround how I can get my ratings to show up on a 2nd machine too?
Thanks!
Michael

You can import/export rating into DB, please check options>Metadata
Pierre.
Re: 0.56: Import of XMP (e.g. Rating fields) to DB
The "Import XMP subject or IPTC keyword to DB Categories" is checked for me as well as the "Export rating in XMP metadata". I do not see any "Import XMP metadata to DB" option.
In the browser window's Info/XMP window I can see my 3, 4 and 5 star ratings, so it's definitely stored inside the .jpg file, however I cannot use the 'filter' functionality nor do I see these nice colored star-rating-overlay pictures on my thumbnails.
Glad if someone can help

Re: 0.56: Import of XMP (e.g. Rating fields) to DB
An easy way to reproduce:
Rate a picture with 5 star. With my settings this information is written into the XMP as well as the DB. I can see the overlay 5* in the browser. Then I use Windows Explorer to copy this picture to another directory on the same machine. I then open this file/directory with XNViewMP. Result: I can see that the XMP rating=5 but I can not see the overlay 5* in the browser. I tried all checkboxes in options->Metadata but none improved this behavior. I even changed date/time of the picture to get XnViewMP to refresh the DB but without success. Even deleting the cache.db did not import the data from XMP to DB.
Anyone got a solution for this? I still think a function (button or something) like "Import XMP data to DB" is missing.
