Getting error with JPG lossless crop

Post by pak »

Seemingly randomly, I keep getting the error "an error occurs, maybe original file is READ only" on the second or third consecutive file that I do a lossless crop on.

For instance, I have any number of files in a folder, open one, make a selection and do a lossless crop on it, then proceed to the next and do the same, etc. Usually I can do two crops before getting the error, but sometimes only one, and in order to do more I have to restart the program. I've checked the files, they are not read only, nor are they in a read only folder, and they are not in use by another program as far as I can tell. I changed all the settings to defaults, no luck with that either. I had been getting this consistently after every two crops, but now sometimes I get the error, and sometimes I can keep going indefinitely.

I have hundreds of photos that I do this on, so it's frustrating to have this keep happening.

I'm using WinXP with XnView 2.04. I had the same problem with 2.03.

On a related note it would be great to have a shortcut key for each of the JPEG lossless transformations, not just the two 90 deg rotations.

Yes, same thing. I can't do another crop until I restart the program.

I can crop it if I reopen the image.

Sorry for the late reply, I'm not receiving notifications for some reason, though all the settings in my profile seem to say that I should. Odd.

When using JPG lossless transformations the original file is backed-up and then the transformation is applied on the image file. Your problem occurs randomly, so perhaps it's a locking problem of XnView: A file should be renamed or written to and the file is locked by another thread (e.g. for displaying).

I've tried to reproduce the problem by cropping, navigating, cropping, and so on, but no problem occured. Could you perhaps screen record the cropping plus the error? Or alternatively describe the way you crop and switch to the next image in more detail?
