Cropping problem: Some pixels lost

Post by Christian72D »

I wanted to crop a bunch of pictures to change the aspect.

So i draw the frame over the complete width of the picture but i always loose some pixels (1-4).
I first have to zoom out a little bit to catch the whole width.

Tested on three PCs with v2.05.

Would it help if you make a small (1-3) pixel width transparent frame around the picture, or am i doing something wrong?

I assume that you have a large image that is diplayed with zoom < 100%. If you try to select the image using the mouse without changing the zoom factor, it happens quite often that some pixels are missing.
Reason for the problem is the clicking of the mouse: It's very hard to position the mouse in the very the top left and the top right corner of the image. And if you don't position very accurately and you are a little bit off, you will loose not just 1 pixel, but several pixels due to the zooming of the image.

Does this describe your problem, Christian?

Workaround 1:
Do not use the mouse to select the full image but the "Edit > Select all" menu or shortcut Ctrl+A.

Workaround 2:
Zoom out a bit and then select the full image using the mouse. Please note that it's o.k. to start selection in the grey area, no need to position the mouse accurately.

Suggestions for XnView:
Auto-Image size should not use the full screen estate but leave a small border all around the image. This would allow for easier selecting the image.

My problem is a little bit different.

When i open a 16x9 picture on my 16x9 screen i have no border on the left and right side because of the toolbars and the statusbar.
Because XnView is set to always maximise all picture.
So there is no place to start the selection from the grey space.

Workaround 1 is the only good solution, always zooming out would take to much time when i have to manipulate several pictures.

But a small 1-2 pixel border on all sides would kill this problem for everyone.
