Tag the pictures

After a reportage trip, I have to choose images for a photo-book.
I would like tag any picture to make a quick search by tag.
I'm newbe and I haven't been able to find how tag the images.
Any help will be appreciated, thanks

You means tag by adding a keyword?

Yes.
I have some 9000 pictures. As I see an interesting one I would like add a keyboard to the picture.
Any time I could scroll the pictures with same keyboard only
(viewNX2, Nikon software, uses 9 labels)
Of course it will be same result if any picture is renamed. But I do not like rename, I prefer keep the original name.

You means labels not keywords, in XnView it's color label

Thanks, I found color labels in the MP version.
Anyway it seems to me that there are 5 kinds of label only and I was looking for a way to get many labels
I have to sort thousands pictures. Really a puzzle. I do the job with paper and pencil.
Do not worry Pierre, it is my needs not for everyone.
