XnView never enters any IPTC data in XMP format

When I enter a date or any other data into an IPTC field XnView does not generate XMP data (only IPTC - IIM I suppose) - even when the "Update or create XMP" box is checked. Is this a bug ???? Am I doing something wrong ????

I am using Version 2.13 dated Dec 12, 2013 and my files are TIF files. I'm using WinHex to view the files so I can see the binary data written into it. XnView has many fine features but this is a big problems for me. I have a couple thousand photos in a huge number of folders to update and will be regularly adding more so having to use a second program to copy the dates and other fields to XMP format is pretty clumsy.
