I want to show the Pane Names but that option is greyed out in the dropdown! Any ideas?
Try View | Layout | Free - it should make the panes (un)dockable, show the Pane Names and enable the option which you want.
Aslo, can I show keywords/categories under the thumbnails?
I don't think so. And, also, it wouldn't be a very good idea. Because the length of the summed keywords/categories varies greatly from photo to photo. That's why the true solution is a dedicated area in which the program will display the "Assigned" set of categories for the current selection.
I have a Favourites box showing but the name is hidden and I can't move / delete it. Any ideas?
Try View | Layout | Free , as I said above.
...or to directly hide it go to View | Tree Pane | Favorites
However, the Favorites is useful because it shows you subtrees with the folders containing your pictures.
Example:
I have 95% of my pictures in G:\Media\Pictures
Because is difficult to navigate each time there, I mark this folder as a favorite, by using the 'Favorite' drop-down button on the file toolbar:

- Clipboard 1.jpg (8.69 KiB) Viewed 535 times
Then the desired folder will appear in the 'Favorite' drop-down menu as well as in the "Favorite box" which you referenced above. Is a nice feature.
As you can see I am a new user who needs some help if possible!!!
Thanks
