What does "Use huge thumbnails"?

I'm quite new to xnView.
So I really can't figure out the function of Options -> Browser -> Thumbnail -> "Use huge thumbnails" CheckBox.
Checking / unchecking it effects in sliders position, but I can't see any difference neither in thumbnails nor in thumbnail area.

Any explanation is appreciated - thanks in advance.

It resets the slider from the max of 320x320 to a new max of 1024x1024 allowing you to have much bigger thumbnails.

Ah - now I've recognized, that it alters the sliders scaling and as a result the sliders position.
Would it make sense to write the max. values to the right ends of the scales?
