Build thumbnails hangs with empty cache list

Post by ijx77 »

With the DB cached directory list empty, the "rebuild thumbnails" process never finishes, ~0% cpu.

(works as planned with any contents listed in cache)

Also the use of "excluded/included" folders in DB settings can be confusing - I added an included folder as sub folder of excluded folder in the DB settings .. I expected it to have thumbnails built for it after pressing "rebuild thumbnails" but this didn't happen. Is this a bug? Is there a way to add folders to the thumbnail cache through settings?

Yep - funny one. But you have the 'Abort' there.

+1

I leave Pierre to answer here, but I think that for your subfolder the thumbnails will be build + stored IF you enter in that subfolder. REbuild thumbnails REbuilds the EXISTING thumbnails.
Is there a way to add folders to the thumbnail cache through settings?
Tools | Settings | Database | Add folder... (a button in lower-right corner) - It works recursively with the entire subtree. Hence if you choose Add Folder and select the root of your drive, then entire disk will be indexed. Usually these tasks should be done overnight of course.

Thanks again. I didn't realise it was recursive.

See Issue 317 for current status and details.

What means "work"?

Beware, he thinks that having the following steps...

1. Go to Database | Excluded / Included
2. Add a folder which isn't in the DB yet. Make this folder 'Included' without going with XnViewMP to 'see' what is in it (iow to build the thumbs).
3. Press 'Rebuild Thumbnails'

...will build the thumbs also for the folder at Step 2. Is this the case?

ISTM that Included/Excluded needs a manual scan by going in that folder to have the thumbs built.
