When I do a relative canvas resize the behavior is as follows:
- when I enter a positive value into either Width or Height, always the Width (or longer side when "Follow orientation" is selected) of the image is increased
- when I enter a negative value into either Width or Height, always the Height (or shorter side when "Follow orientation is selected) of the image is decreased

Sorry but I think that I cannot reproduce. Can you try again?

I used your screenshot but without "Follow orientation" and it works ok.
Also, I used just the preview window of Batch Convert. Perhaps when one saves the file is different?

You are right, without "Follow orientation" it works like expected ... my fault.

But when you select "Follow orientation" it behaves like described and produces wrong output. Positive numbers only increase the width, negative numbers only decrease the height.
