Allow custom toolbar to dock inside Browser preview

Post by JohnFredC »

Please consider allowing custom toolbars to dock INSIDE the browser preview.

Visibility of the controls (which only are useful only when the preview is visible) would be connected to the visibility of the preview pane.

Hide preview pane, preview toolbar hides also. Show preview pane, preview toolbar shows also.

This image shows a small toolbar docked inside the browser preview:

Hi Pierre

A dedicated customizable tool bar for the Browser Preview panel would be fine. Settings could provide a toggle to display or hide it.

It just makes good UI design practice that tools dedicated to specific panels should share visibility with them.

Thanks for listening!

Hi Pierre!

I would populate it with the view and rating controls for the selected image in preview.
  • 100%
    Zoom In
    Zoom Out
    Fit image to window
    Fit image to window height
    Fit image to window width
    etc.
    (some of these need icons!!!)

    Excellent
    Good
    Poor

    Personal move to next image
    etc.
...essentially most of the various image viewing and rating tools would go on this toolbar for me. Since I need the preview for most of my rating activities and DON'T customarily use the rating activities when no preview is showing, tying these functions to the visibility of the preview will reduce the clutter on the main toolbar.

I might even stick the navigation tools (Next/Previous image) on there.

Actually, each browser panel should have its own toolbar in the manner that the thumbs panel has its own (aka the "mini"). FWIW, I've never been a fan of Apple's "One toolbar to rule them all" approach.

If each panel had its own "captive" toolbar populated with relevant controls by default, then more functionality could be exposed without overloading the main toolbar or requiring "discovery" by the user.

The user could choose to:
  • - Hide or show each panel toolbar when its parent panel is visible
    - Reposition the panel toolbar within its parent panel (but not outside of it)
    - Populate the toolbar with whichever controls are relevant to the function of the panel and the user's specific needs
Thanks for listening!

PS. A preview viewing-only gamma slider (not currently implemented) would be a great!
