Minimize to system tray

Post by tylenolthumb »

An option to minimize to system tray would be great.

I agree.

After launching an external editor, XnViewMP needs to automatically minimize to the Windows Taskbar to immediately allow editing the image in the external editor.

An option in the program settings to enable this behavior is what I'm looking for.

You would like an option to minimise XnViewMP to the taskbar where icons for minimised programs are normally placed, not to the notification area at the right hand end of the taskbar?

tylenolthumb's request was for a way to minimise to the notification area, as originally explained in this thread:

Minimize XnViewMP to tray?

In Windows minimisation to the notification area is not a standard option, as you know, but Googling there are several utilities for adding the function, as indicated in the previous thread.

If your request is for a way to automatically minimize to the taskbar rather than the notification area to immediately allow editing the image in an external editor after launching an external editor, you could possibly post that as a separate suggestion...

I was very precise when I wrote my request to minimize to the taskbar, so it's good to see that you can understand what was written. Rather than creating "duelling requests" about where to automatically minimize XnViewMP, I think the developer will get the message about minimizing....

If I understand correctly:

tylenolthumb's request is to modify the behaviour of XnViewMP when it is used with a utility to provide an option not normally present in Windows to minimise the program to the 'system tray' (notification area);

photoken's request is to modify the behaviour of XnViewMP when an associated program is opened, so that it is automatically minimised to the taskbar (the normal Windows Taskbar, not the Notification Area).

As the requests are for different behaviour, in different circumstances, posts in the thread from other forum members could easily result in some confusion as to which they are supporting or commenting on, as could the often long timescale before suggestions are implemented if they ever are.

Separate threads for each request might therefore be better...
