When I double click, nothing happens. When I right click and select open, it slowly opens a new tab that has the name of the video but the video doesn't play and the play button is greyed out again. I have been unable to play any video in 0.75 in either preview pane or new tab. Everything else works fine. I can open 0.72 side by side with 0.75 and in 0.72 I can right click>open and it does play in new tab.
With all formats?
I recommend that you ditch 0.75, go back to 0.72 and fix problems instead adding any new features. 0.72 seems fixable. It was already playing the videos when you right click > open. 0.75 is a broken version. In 0.75 when I right click > open, it takes 3 seconds for the tab to appear and then it doesn't play the video anyway. In 0.72 right click > open, opens the new tab quickly and it plays the video.
I have not changed anything in player code, only the version of QT API. And i have not this problem, video files are playing correctly.
x32 or x64bits?
However there are lots of other problems.
Which problems?

With all formats?
Yes, I have tested wmv, avi, mpg and mp4. None work in 0.75. They don't play in preview pane or new tab or right click play. They do play in 0.72.
x32 or x64bits?
32 bit.
Which problems?
The problems that I have explained in the table. There are 10 problems with 0.72 video playback explained in detail in the table in my first message.

do you have a codec pack like Klite?
Yes I have K-lite codec pack 9.9.0 installed and, these programs play all videos:
1. windows media player
2. picasa
3. kmplayer
4. XnviewMP 0.72 (when you single click > preview or when you right click > open)

XnviewMP 0.75 doesn't play any video in any condition. For example on this page on top right there is a small mp4 video called 512KB MPEG4. It doesn't play this video. It doesn't play any video at all.

Is it possible to ditch 0.75 and go back to 0.72 and fix those important problems with double click?

If you have 0.73 or 0.74 I would be happy to try these too to see where 0.75 was messed up.

So strange, i have no problem with your mp4, play in preview.
Could you try to remove or rename the .db and .ini?

I noticed this problem as well. I have a notebook (Win 7 32 bits) where v0.75 is installed for months and video plays well.
The other day I decided to upgrade my main machine (Win 7 64 bits) from 0.72 to 0.75 and I have the same behaviour as described by Teo. I reverted back to 0.72 and it was OK.
Both machines do have the same codec pack. The (faulty) desktop have QuickTime on top.
Is there any log that we could activate?

Best regards,

xnview wrote:Could you try to remove or rename the .db?
I tried that and it didn't have any effect.
xnview wrote:Could you try to remove or rename the .ini?
I tried that and again nothing has changed. It took me a while to figure out what .ini you mean. To help others, this is the ini location:

xnviewmp top menu > tools > settings > integration > paths > open config file location (for .ini)

1. I renamed the ini
2. restarted xnviewmp 0.75
3. the Startup Wizard appeared
4. I selected new locations for db and settings and clicked OK
5. The program started. It created a new xnview.ini file
6. Nothing has changed. More specifically:
a. When I single click the media player appears in the preview pane but the video doesn't play and the play button is greyed out.
b. When I double click nothing happens.
c. When I right click and play, a new blank tab appears with the media player and the video name but the video doesn't play and the play button is greyed out. This is what I see.

I recommend that you forget about 0.75, go back to 0.72 and fix these important problems:

IMPORTANT PROBLEMS IN 0.72 THAT NEED FIXING

1. I single click to video > it starts playing in the preview pane > I select a photo and it shows in preview pane > I close the preview pane > again I select a video > it starts playing in the background invisibly in the preview pane that is closed.

Solution: If preview pane is closed, don't play video in preview pane.

2. I double click to video > nothing happens. But if I right click > open, it opens a new tab and plays.

Solution: Make it so that double click does the same thing as right click > open.

3. While the video is playing in the preview pane, if I right click > open > it opens a second instance of the same video and plays it simultaneously. The preview pane and the new tab, play the same video at the same time but at different moments in the video (the sound doesn't match).

Solution: Make it so that right click > open stops the video in preview pane.

I can't go back to 0.72, 0.75 use now the official QT 5 API.

I can reproduce the problem in a virtual win7, play works for 0.72 and not 0.75. Really strange. I need to contact QT team :(

The file you have sent already exist with exact same file size (bytes) and same creation time (seconds) but I still tried it and nothing has changed.

I wish it was possible to focus on the 3 important problems in 0.72 that I wrote in my previous message. The difference between 0.75 (97MB) and 0.72 (57MB) looks like a lot. I think differences should not be so much that you can not redo them within 2 hours. If you could go back to 0.72 and apply all the changes again one by one until it becomes 0.75, you could try that to see which change brakes the videos.

I don't know if this is relevant but both 0.72 and 0.75 display a message saying the image needs to be converted to 8-bit when I first time play a video. I just select don't display this message again. But I thought I will mention it. Another thing I noticed is, it takes about 4 seconds in 0.75 to open the new tab when I "right click > open" a video.

Btw, I don't mind trying 0.73 and 0.74 if those exist. Also I don't mind trying other ideas to pin point the problem.

I downloaded the 0.75 windows setup version from here. After installation in help>about it says XnViewMP, Version 0.75 x32 (Sep 21 2015).
Hi,
I just wanted to add. This seems to be an issue with Win7 x32 0.75 or the software used to create the videos. I'm running Win7 x64 v0.75 and I can play .mp4, .wmv, .avi. All these types play fine, I Still can't play .flv, or .mkv though the thumbnails work for .flv's. I'm also using a different codec pack from here. http://www.mediaplayercodecpack.com Called "Media player codec pack for Microsoft Windows. I'm not sure if it will help, but possible..

Also your other problems in the chart are gone with v0.75. The preview window seems to act lots better.

I Feel if he can get v0.75 few bugs smashed it'll be lots better.

Hi. I was exited when I read your comment so I installed XnViewMP 0.75 Windows x64 SETUP version to a Windows 7 machine. It plays videos but unfortunately none of the problems I mentioned in the table are fixed. I rechecked all 8 one by one. I guess it can be tricky to read the table. Most of the problems on the table are related to double click not working. Some are related to preview pane playing the video when preview pane is closed.

The difference is only QT API
