[Solved] Copy/paste png to MS Word 2010

Hello,

I can open a .jpg with XnView, copy (CTRL+C) and paste it (CTRL+V) in MS Word 2010 but it's not working with png files. I don't know if it was possible before because I'm using this function quite often and I was never anoyed before.

I'm under Windows 7 Pro x64

No problem for me in a quick test using XnView Classic 2.34 or 2.13, or using XnViewMP 0.75 x32 ...

Possibly an issue with transparency??

If necessary, could you upload the PNG file -- in a ZIP to ensure that it isn't modified -- for someone to test?

Sorry for the delay.

The file is in attachement. I don't know if it's related to MS Word, if I convert the PNG to JPG it's working, but if I convert to BMP it's not working as well.
I'm using the .zip version, mabe the install version registers some files.

Your file pastes into Word 2010 normally for me, which seems to eliminate a number of possibilities...

Windows 7 x64 and MS Word 2010 (Starter Click and Run).

Have you tried Googling, one slightly confused post related to pasting images suggests checking the following Word setting is unchecked:

File > Options > Advanced > Show document content > Show picture placeholders

Don't know if that has any relevance, but other search returns might...

No, it does not work.

I can paste PNG files to MS Paint but not to MS Word. I don't know if the problem is related to MS Word (because Irfan View is OK) or to XnView (because MS Paint is OK)

I tried the Paste Special and it works with the first choice : paste as Bitmap.

According to this doc this option is related to transparency so I tried to look for a transparency option for PNG files in XnView.

I finaly discovered that in the XnView menu General > Read/Write > Read > PNG, "compose image with transparency" and "compose image with alpha (32 bit)" were inactives. If I activate these both options the copy/paste to Word 2010 is working.

Glad you have found a solution...

The fact that the PNG image you originally uploaded pasted into a Word 2010 document on my computer by simply selecting the downloaded file, and then using Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V, seems to imply that the problem pasting the file that way on your computer is due to a different setting somewhere in Word, or just possibly due to a different update state.
