My prefs stopped working

Today I ran XnView as normal, but all the prefs had inexplicably changed - seemed to have reverted to the default values. (eg it doesn't open in fullscreen, the toolbars are different, the keyboard controls are different)

I have now managed to replace the xnview.ini file with an old backup and it seems to have worked. But still it makes me wonder why the prefs suddenly changed?

Now I think about it, yes, there might have been a crash. XnView doesn't tend to work when I view images in folders that have foreign language characters. I now I recall, I was trying to view a foreign language folder and I think it did crash.
