Split up the XnView- Windows Forum into multiple forums

Post by klumy »

Hi,

how about splitting up the XNView forum into multiple subforums

- suggestions
- bug reports
- General support

So the forum would be easier to read

BTW

a subforum for Toolbar skins would also be nice

Yes, introducing the above groups might make sense. Currently, some people use a prefix [Req] and [Bug] to give some indication, but special groups might make things easier.

In the past there was little discussion regarding the toolbar skins. Do you really think that this is needed?

The bad is that phpbb don't supports subforums, and that can make a lot of mess. For a free forum with subforums suport i like a lot of http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php it also has import from phpbb :P

It's not free, it has banner ad in the corner which I can't get rid of with my Hosts file :(

subforum are not necessary

you can also directly create the three forums in the "Support" forum.

regarding SMF
It's not free, it has banner ad in the corner which I can't get rid of with my Hosts file
that's not correct. SMF is free and there is no AD in the corner and you mustn't remove the Copyright text on the bottom. You just have to pay for the advanced support.

Some other suggestion for the forum:

ordering the forum like in the maxthon forum would also be good.

http://forum.maxthon.com/forum/index.php

in this forum, all chinese forums are combined in one forum and all english subforums in an English forum. Here you can also do this with french and english.

There's an ad on that forum? You should consider using a PAC file instead of a HOSTS file, it's both more efficient (you can combine multiple entries into 1) and more powerful (you can filter out subdirectories and files instead of just domains). If you use a mozilla/gecko based browser, you can also use the usercontent.css file to hide things that can't be blocked.

As far as subforums, have you thought about upgrading to phpBB2? ...Or phpBB plus ( http://www.phpbb2.de/ )(which is based on phpBB2) ? Another forum I frequent ( http://www.cardfloppers.com/index.php ) uses phpBB+, and it allows for subforums. It's support of subforums is kinda poor in the sense that all the subforums are visible on the forum index instead of only when you go into the parent forum, but it does support subforums.

I've just created additional groups as suggested above. Please see post New forum structure.
