They do not open no more!

Post by bldrcr »

I used to open XNView via a portable version, in the http://www.liberkey.com application.
I produced many .exe files with it, but in these days they work no more: if I start them by Explorer, or by a hyperlink I make in an Excel file, this application freezes and nothing more happens. This happens for every file I tried, except for one in a different directory. So, I tried moving some files in that directory, or producing a new .exe file there, but they did not start, as described before.
I just installed the minimal version of the program and used it instead of the portable version, but the result was the same.
I tried to upload a sample of working and freezing files, but I could not add .exe files.

I think you should be able to upload .exe files if you place them in a ZIP attachment, current forum size limit 2MiB...

The ZIP versions of XnView software can be used as portable software directly with some possible limitations, what functionality do you need that you are currently unable to obtain?

I enclose a .zip file containing two samples: 1peterpan.exe works, while aj.exe does not.
I produced the first together with many others, all stored in a different directory and they open no more, just like some new ones produced recently as a trial.
So I wonder what's the difference between the working and not working files.
Thanks.

A little progress, you have now been able to upload the.exe files... I've opened the files in a text editor but, of course, the text means nothing to me... :(

I had never heard of Liberkey until I read your first post, which I therefore didn't really understand. Possibly someone else can help?

Have you considered posting on the Liberkey forum?

Are the .exe files you have created links to files to be run in XnView that might require a codec, so that the problem might just be a codec issue?

Finally, if your need is to create links to files to be opened in XnView run from a USB memory, for example, could you possibly achieve that using the standard XnView ZIP download: I've run XnView (Classic and MP versions) as portable software using relative links from MS Word, so that the USB memory could be plugged into any computer and the program run directly... I'm not immediately sure if you could open a particular file directly, though.
