0.75 Crash on missing codec

Post by jadO »

Folder with video files contain an avi file which needs the cvid codec.
Cinepak codec is not installed on the computer.
When entering the folder from within XnViewMP Explorer the application crashes when trying to generate thumbnails for that file.
After installation of K-Lite Pack which contains Cinepak codec, no more crashes.

While I believe it is perfectly fine application does not know what to do with that file without proper codec, I don´t think it should crash.

At least there needs to be a debug modes which lists the last operations to identify the file and what codec was (not) involved.
It is a pain trying to identify the file by trial and error.

Impossible to rebuild thumbnails this way. XnvieMP keeps crashing and crashing and crashing.

Counting 193 crashes so far for today. It is impossible to single out the files or codecs in question unless moving them one by one which is imposisble to do with thousands of files.

No. Any other software simply skips the file, if it cannot handle it. Only XnvieMP chooses to crash if it cannot find the codec for whatever reason.

It would not be a problem to install the correct codec to please XnvieMP. But it impossible to identify the file as it gives no information about it. It just crashes.

It should not crash. But at least there must be a log file telling me which file has been touched as last action or which codec it was looking for which was not there.

I don't know because XnvieMP does not tell me which file leads to its crash.
I have no idea.

After painfully moving files one by one, I was able to identify one file which reported as DIVX codec. With codec tweaker I was able to verify that it was set to divx for divx files and devoder was present. Did not work.
After switching it to xvid, xnviewmp was able to create thumbnails without crashing for that file.
