Changing to portable version

Post by Wolfram »

Hallo, I use YnView since many years. Now I want to change to the portable version. What have I to do, to get my preferences from the normal version and the integration in Windows (file association)?

Yeah, I have some long time installed software too!

Reasonable desire.

Sometimes software has an option to save its settings to separate file, stored in program's or some other folder, making it possible for transportation on removable media together with the rest of files of application. For example, XnView image viewer which I use has such option.

This is harder part, since in Windows file associations are stored in registry, as well as registration of shell extensions, therefore on each Windows system you'll have to recreate them anew. There are some "enportabilitating" utilities too, which can make a "blob" of all your installed package with all registry settings, but that's no fun.
Just a friendly bonus tip: it is useful to run computer's RAM diagnostics sometimes, because memory failures may lead to letter corruptions in your posts (like "X" losing its stick and turning into "Y").
You're welcome!

Welcome to the forum, Wolfram.
Are you referring to the version from PortableApps.com?
