I use PhotoNinja b.t.w. - great results, albeit a bit slow.
Perhaps the best thing would be one or two checkboxes saying

"Export keywords in XMP metadata"

and

"Export metadata to XMP before using 'Open With...'"

I tried that, but I'm not able to add keywords to my RAW files. How do you do that?

What dd YOU do? :)

To add keywords to any file in XnView MP (the keywords engine is file format agnostic) you just select the desired file(s) and go to Categories pane and work there. If it isn't displayed go to View | Data pane | Categories Pane to display it. Also, perhaps you should display the Category Sets pane which is in the same menu.

For features and a more extensive discussion see here:

http://www.xnview.com/wiki/index.php/Ca ... _XnView_MP

...especially the part about keywording (starts somewhere in the middle).

That said, please be aware that this thread isn't about keywording in general but xmp sidecars for RAW files which you can already generate manually by using View | Update files from database.

If you still have any questions about keywording please start a new thread. If you have questions about sidecars ask here. ...but be sure to provide enough details in order to understand clearly where the problem is. :)

Thank you very much, THAT was my problem!

You are absolutely right and to be on-topic: I wonder why XnView MP seams to be not able to read theese sidecar files which it just wrote?

If you generate these files from within XnView is not needed because the DB is in sync. If you generate them from another program ,most probably you need to manually import them through View | Update database from files.

You are right for the keywords. But I would like, now where I have created a xmp sidecar file, to edit the xmp metadata; e.G. creator, byline, ...

Regards,
Try Ctrl+I or alternatively Tools | Metadata | Edit XMP...

If you have JPG, PNG or TIFF it should work.

For RAW files please pray :). A lot. The enhancement of XMP engine is (hopefully) the next thing in the works. :)

It could be better if I could check some option like: Tools>Settings>Browser>Metadata:
"Export automatically keywords in XMP sidecars metadata"
to make a better difference with the XMP included into the file.
or
"Automatically update files from database into XMP sidecars"
or
"Automatically update XMP sidecars files from catalog"

Hello! First of all, thanks for this awesome program!

I also join the bunch asking for a more powerful XMP engine, as it would allow to manage metadata of pretty much everything. How is it going?
In particular, I was wondering if the "Ctrl+i" option could be extended to every file type, provided that the information are stored according to the XMP standard AND in a sidecar file if embedding is not possible.

Yes, +1!
This would also go in a similar direction.
