0.78 64 bit [WIN10]: MP4 Preview not working
Hello,
it seems that the preview of MP4 is not working anymore in XnView MP 0.78. I am using Windows 10. Downgrading to XnView MP 0.76 solved the issue for me and now MP4 are viewable again in the internal Previewer. I am using the 64 bit version. With 0.78 nothing happens when selecting MP4 files. Other video files like wmv or avi seem to be working.

Re: 0.78 64 bit [WIN10]: MP4 Preview not working
Confirmed: .MP4 and .MOV files are not played since upgrade to v0.78. .WMV works fine.
I have 2 machines: One Win 10 /64 bits and another Windows 7 /32 bits and it's the same. I kept the same .ini file in order to ensure same settings.
Also it's not limited to the browser preview pane but in the view mode as well as in the full screen mode.
The player launches and just stop. Pressing the Play button, the video do not start.
Best regards,
DB

Re: 0.78 64 bit [WIN10]: MP4 Preview not working
I've changed the way to use codec. In XnView MP 0.72, do you have preview?
With 0.78, other video formats play?
In XnView Classic, same problem?

Re: 0.78 64 bit [WIN10]: MP4 Preview not working
Hi,
I just did a few tests with different versions, here are the results:
0.76 MP
mp4 OK
mov OK
3gp OK
wmv OK
avi NOK
0.78 MP (32 bit and 64 bit)
mp4 NOK
mov NOK
3gp NOK
wmv OK
avi NOK
0.72 MP(32 bit and 64 bit)
mp4 NOK
mov NOK
3gp NOK
wmv OK
avi NOK
2.35 Classic
mp4 NOK
mov NOK
3gp NOK
wmv OK
avi NOK
I am not sure about the avi test, because I would bet that I was able to play a file yesterday with both 0.76 and 0.78. Maybe a codec is now broken or s.th.
But so far it seems only 0.76 is able to play mp4.

Re: 0.78 64 bit [WIN10]: MP4 Preview not working
On my Win 10 x64 XnView MP 0.78 plays MP4, at least those with AVC/AAC streams inside.
Re: 0.78 64 bit [WIN10]: MP4 Preview not working
I Aggree with Jwehren's view.
I would like to add some additional info. Both my Windows 10 /64 and my Windows 7 /32 are fresh installs. I mean I never installed any FFMPEG or si,ilar codec pack. This was a great improvement in recent versions of MP that the latest versions of QT relies on original Windows libraries.
For those who can play .MP4 or .MOV they check an tell if an additional codec pack is installed on their machine
Note: Some audio or video editors installs / includes such packs

Re: 0.78 64 bit [WIN10]: MP4 Preview not working
K-Lite Mega codec pack has brought LAV filters, ffdshow, Haali media splitter, everything else I don't remember, but XnView MP does not provide information which filters/splitters it is using, or I don't know where to look or which utility can tell me about filters loaded by application.
Update: judging by icons appearing in tray while XnView MP plays MP4, it is using LAV filters.

Re: 0.78 64 bit [WIN10]: MP4 Preview not working
Hi Pierre,
We had a very similar behaviour with the initial delivery of 0.75 and it was fixed later in 0.76. Since then we do not need anymore a Codec Pack.
Please, keep this easy-to-use model, that's for the majority of users who just want to download, try and use XnView MP out-of-the-box
At some point you mentionned
MP4 videos not shown in XnView after installing ffdshow http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... On#p128581

I found some topics related :I've a reply from QT Team.
"In Qt 4.8 we use DirectShow as a multimedia backend while in Qt 5 the default backend is WMF (Windows Media Foundation)"
So XnViewMP doens't use anymore DirectShow codec. I'll try to build QT with Directshow codec support...

Re: 0.78 64 bit [WIN10]: MP4 Preview not working
I confirm: neither MP4, MOV, MTS are played on 0.78 64 bit on Win7.
But AVI, VOB, MPEG yes.

Re: 0.78 64 bit [WIN10]: MP4 Preview not working
I have QuickTime installed and others codecs too, no codeckpack. The strange things, is that XnView (normal) read perfectly all videos, but not XnViewMP (in the same computer, obviously)
