emz (compressed emf), XnView crashes

Post by oimara »

I used XnView to view emz files.
These files were created by compressing emf files with 7zip (gzip).

Since some time XnView (and also XnViewMP) crashes when I try to open emz files.
It can't display emz fiels anymore, too.

Is this a bug or has the support for emz files been dropped?
Emz is still listed under Options system integraton -> associations.

I have attached a sample.
As I mentioned above, I compressed the file with 7zip using gzip method.

By doubleclicking the file, XnView crahes with the windows message "XnView für Windows funktioniert nicht mehr/XnView for Windows doesn't work any more".

Hi Piere,
no, not only. And there is not every time a crash. But very often. I didn't find a pattern yet.
But even if it doesn't, emz files are not displayed.
Sometimes Xnview crashes when clicking on an emz thumbnail (filter all file types), sometimes it doesn't (screenshot).
And I remember, I diasabled shell extension, cause every time I clicked with right button on an emz file, it crashed the windows explorer, which did a restart. ... And it still does. I just made a test.

I am using Win 7 Prof X64.

No, i tried with several files. No crash occured. But XnViewMP treats emz files as non image files and to me it seems that it doesn't try to display the file content.

I have attached error messages with occure when I do a right click (shell extension) on emz files using FreeCommander as windows explorer replacement (all of them X64 applications).
The address changed from one machine to another.

The normal Windows 7 x64 explorer with XnViewShell64.dll also crashes (right click on EMZ). When I try to open the EMZ within XnView 2.35 I get an error message.

Maybe your EMZ isn't as it should be, but of course the XnView shell extension isn't supposed to kill the shell, no matter how good, bad, or ugly a wannabe image is. :bugconfirmed:
