2 catalogues

Post by Geoff »

I cannot understand the method suggested in the forum for having 2 catalogues using 2 xnview.ini files. Could someone please tell me how to do this in simple language? I want to open a copy of XnViewMP to only look at one collection of files with their own set of thumb.db and XnView.db and separately to look at a different collection of files with their own set of thumb.db and XnView.db

Thank you,

Geoff

I have managed to write 2 different xnview.ini files that save both the Thumb.db and Xnview.db files in different folders. By exchanging the xnview.ini file manually in "C:\Users\Geoff\AppData\xnview.ini" I get the behaviour I want. What I am unable to do is start XnViewMP with a command line such as "C:\Program Files (x86)\XnViewMP\xnviewmp.exe -ini C:\XnView Display\xnview.ini" in order to direct the programme to the correct ini file. It is a long time since I wrote batch files so is my syntax correct or does the programme not take a command line? I use Window 10 but the aviation library where the data base is used have windows 7.

Can anybody tell me how to open XnViewMP to look at a specific choice of xnview.ini.

Thank you, Geoff

Why not just use 2 portable versions in different folders. Then keep the .ini and .db files with the .exe's

C:\Portabie\Xnviewmp_01
C:\Portable\Xnviewmp_02

Thank you Erixx,

I cannot find a download for a portable version so is it the standard windows 32 download? I think you are saying load 2 copies of the installation files for XnViewMP in 2 separate folders. Then in "Integration>path>Use.ini file in folder >go to programme" and also direct the 2 db files to the folder.
This means all is in the same folder and makes transfer to other computers much simpler. Sounds much cleaner than batch files that I am playing with at present.

Success :)

Following Erixx suggestion found that under settings>integration you could direct the ini file and the 2 db files to the programme. So now have just two folders with all the files needed for each separate data base. Makes transfer between computers very easy. To be able to control which database was opened made a shortcut on the desktop from each separate copy of xnviewmp.exe. Thank you again Erixx and "merci beaucoup" to Pierre for developing such a useful and adaptable programme.
