Session dialog

Post by xnview »

Hello,

when you have some opened tabs, at exit, XnViewMP will ask to save session

But it seems that this dialog is confusing, and some users click on 'dont show again' and at next startup they think that XnViewMP is slow because it loads all tabs...

If i use this dialog, is it better?

The issue is that the more tabs are saved the longer it will take to reopen XnView MP, which may cause a noticeable delay, and how to explain that?

Some initial thoughts:

A note that 'Saving many tabs may noticeably slow reopening XnView MP' would be helpful;

'Always ask' might be clearer than 'Do not show this message again' ?

Edit: 'Always ask' checked by default.

Possibly confusing;

'If not 2 tabs will be re-opened next time' might be an improvement?

A note 'Saving many tabs may noticeably slow reopening XnView MP' would again be helpful;

I think that the existing dialogue with the two changes suggested above is the clearest of the three, but only my tentative thoughts...

Yes... :D

If everyone is happy, and there is no conflict with Tools > Settings...

Ideally perhaps with an 'alert' symbol or possibly in italics, but that's perfectionism...

I disagree with the last suggestion "[ ] Ask always" . The user is still left in the dark what will happen if he unchecks this. And FAIK, there's a de-facto standard with a checkbox that says something like "[ ] Remember my decision and don't ask me again".

EDIT: Just browsed the web a little and found that Safari and IntelliJ use exactly the above wording.

Hello:

Personally, I like The original dialog. ( With added Message/ Warning ). Maybe even moving the check box,(Top left) So that the question and answer parts are closer together.

The checkbox wording is pretty standard for windows users, but maybe not in other OS.

But with this question, 'Do not show this message again' is not understood

I was thinking maybe the reason is because of the checkbox questions location. (It's in betwwen the main question and answer)
(Do you want to save this session ?... Yes/no)

Put the checkbox.. (Do not show this again) above or below this main question because it's a new question.

Your right also, Thinking about it more: in that case I would put (Do not show this message again). + added warning and moving it top or bottom.

I have seen this wording all over the place though, and inside many programs.
Maybe it's because the word (Message) is missing.

Just a thought.. Thanks

Others I have seen:

- Do not ask again. +1
- Do not show again.
- Never ask again. +1
- Don't show next time.
Also Your:
- Always use this action.. Sounds good too, but user's may not realize they won't get to see the dialog again.
