Filter use and window size

Post by joximus »

If I use filter on image, size of XnView window changes. Even if I cancel filter use window is resized. This is kind of annoying and I believe not desired behavior.

Sure enough, when applying filters and effects, the image size must remain the same. I've just tried and applied a filter to an image and then saved it as JPG, but worked all worked fine, i.e. image widht/height remained exactly the same.

Looks like a very specific problem. Could you please provide more details?

- On which platform do you work (Win 95, 98, ... Linux, ...)
- Which version of XnView do you use?
- Which image format do you use (opening, saving)? (JPG, ...)
- Which filter has to be used to reproduce the problem?
- Does the problem occur directly after applying the filter or when saving (format?) the image?

Platform: Win98SE
XnView: 1.68.1 (In previous versions I tried also)
Image format for JPG (and other so I don't think this is relevant)
Filter emboss (and other so I don't think this is relevant)
Problem occurs directly after applying or canceling filter. There is no problem with saving. Also I noticed that problem occurs when I have view options set to: maximize when open and auto image size set to Fit image to desktop, large only. (Fit image to desktop is enough to reproduce the problem) If auto image size option is: No fit, there is no problem. So problem must be with Fit to desktop option.

Joximus, thanks for your detailed problem description. After playing around a bit, I could reproduce your problem on Windows 2000:

Settings:
Default options of XnView 1.68.1, following option changed:
View->Auto Image Size: "Fit image to desktop, large only".

Steps:
1.) Make sure browser is not maximized
2.) Open a small image.
3.) Select filter "Filter->Effects->Spread"
4.) Cancel the filter dialog
--> The image's window will be maximized. :bugconfirmed: But window size should not change.

Please note that this problem does not occur with all filters, e.g. "Filter->Blur->Average" works o.k..
