Sorry to say, I absolutely love XnView, and rely on it constantly, but after updating to MP .83 x64 I'm finding only slight changes to the problems that are making me groan daily. I've reported all of these previously, trying to give you complete information here to help with development. Please ask questions or make suggestions if you have any.
I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with plenty of RAM. I completely uninstalled previous versions before installing .83, and show all dependencies present.
1) Thumbnails: Still corrupts thumbs wherever I open from a file, only in that folder. I've taken to opening from a file in an adjacent folder for that reason. With .83 it seems to scramble them within the same folder so far, instead of randomly from various folders as before. I can only identify files from the preview at bottom, makes using the browser very frustrating.
2) File Ordering: Within browser view files display in order according to the first numeric character in the number portion of similarly named files, rather than the true numeric order, as in system folders. ie: 179, 18, 180 or 69, 7, 70. Maddening.
3) Saved Sessions: Open multiple times. When I save a session (tab group), then open from a file or launcher, the session reopens as expected. Then I have that window open and I want to open another instance from a file, which I can do, but the whole group opens again in each instance until I close out and select no, don't save. Problem is I only need one instance of the saved tabs, then I need to open other instances to work concurrently, with that group still open. Would be great if the app would recognize that the saved group has already been opened once, and dump the cache of saved files, so subsequent instances will not cause another explosion of tabs.
4) Crash on attempt to copy hexidecimal value from background color field: This is minor, but I always seem to forget to write the values down instead of trying to copy-paste. When I open color selector, as soon as I select the value entered with cursor, the whole app greys out and freezes. Program does not stabilize with waiting, only solution is to force quit and restart.
5) Stability: This version seems less stable than previous ones. Takes longer to open new instance or new file tab from browser, sometimes to close file by x on tab,and jams up or crashes more frequently. Also slower to scroll in one tab using forward and back arrow buttons. Generally feels like it's struggling with loads it held well previously.
Thanks

I need more info about this bug, i can't reproduce it.David4321 wrote: 1) Thumbnails: Still corrupts thumbs wherever I open from a file, only in that folder. Do you have same problem with a clean .ini?
Perhaps you can send me your xnview.ini?
Do you use sort by name?2) File Ordering: Within browser view files display in order according to the first numeric character in the number portion of similarly named files, rather than the true numeric order, as in system folders. ie: 179, 18, 180 or 69, 7, 70. Maddening.
Ok, but if close second instance, you'll have no more saved session...3) Saved Sessions: Open multiple times. It's a bug in Qt API4) Crash on attempt to copy hexidecimal value from background color field: This is minor, but I always seem to forget to write the values down instead of trying to copy-paste. Strange, because 0.83 is more stable than previous.5) Stability: This version seems less stable than previous ones. Do you have tried to reinstall 0.82?

Re: New version, same unresolved bugs
Thanks Pierre
1) I've tried clean .ini on .82, not on .83 yet. Happy to share, attaching.
2) I've looked around for setting, can't find it. Didn't know there was another way to sort in browser other than by name, or why that wouldn't be default. I haven't knowingly changed it. It seems to already sort by name, only numeric characters do not sort into natural sequence, just based on first character. Look closely at these examples of sort results. (ie: filename-179, filename-18, filename-180 or filename-69, filename-7, filename-70.)
3) Yes, I figured that out, thanks. Still inconvenient with a large group of saved tabs. Minor issue, but a suggestion for next release, dump cache after opening once.
4) I don't understand "It's a bug in Qt API", maybe that was for your team.
5) I can try that if it would help you. It's not terrible, but noticeably stickier than before update.

Sort is by 'name (not numeric)', please use 'name'2) I've looked around for setting, can't find it. Qt API are libraries used by XnViewMP. These libraries are developed by "The Qt company".4) I don't understand "It's a bug in Qt API", maybe that was for your team.
when do you have crash?5) I can try that if it would help you. It's not terrible, but noticeably stickier than before update.

Re: New version, same unresolved bugs
I rebuilt the thumb database. So far it's ok, seems like that may have worked.
I found the sort setting, that worked.
Hasn't crashed since the first week or so after install.
Thanks

Re: New version, some bugs remain
This is crazy, it's doing it again. I'm talking about the corrupted thumbnails issue. I rebuilt the thumb database after your last reply, and that seemed to fix it, so I let it go. It worked properly for a few days, then it started again. Not sure how I can help you reproduce it, but I remember the same thing happening on earlier versions, the only temporary solution I've found is the lengthy process of rebuilding all thumbs. But it doesn't hold. Yesterday when I opened from a file, a small number of saved tabs opened as expected, along with the clicked file. But again the thumbs in that folder were replaced with others from several different random folders. I opened again and closed to empty saved tabs, then opened again from a different file in another folder. That folder's thumbs were corrupted as well.
Today I opened again, it's doing that again in whatever folder the file I open from is located. Other folders are unaffected. If I navigate to other folders in the browser, thumbs are normal. When I navigate back to any of the affected folders, the thumbs are still scrambled (with the same mis-associations) until the whole database is rebuilt again.

Re: New version, some bugs remain
could you try with a clean database, to start XnViewMP, quit, and start with a file from that folder, and check if you have again this issue?David4321 wrote:Today I opened again, it's doing that again in whatever folder the file I open from is located. Re: New version, some bugs remain
Yes, still doing it. I opened from saved tabs, closed, asked not to save, open again, (this always takes 2 times) checked that only one file is opening, closed fully again, opened again from a new file in a folder that had not experienced the scrambled thumbs yet, and sure enough, the thumbs were scrambled. It's not every thumb in the folder, but not just the one of the file I've opened from, a number of files are affected. The thumbs seem to all be from folders that have recently had files open from, but not just one additional folder, random thumbs from several different folders which have been opened recently.
Re: New version, some bugs remain
is it possible to make a screen movie to show the problem (please remove the .db before)??David4321 wrote:Yes, still doing it.
