0.83 (Linux): Slide Show Not Switching to Associated Prog

Post by MI_User »

Using XnViewMP v0.83 for Linux on a LinuxLite (Ubuntu) laptop (x64). Works well on 40,000 jpg’s, but hangs when it encounters an mp4 video file. Same Linux laptop, loaded W-XP into a VM VirtualBox and installed XnViewMP v0.83 for Windows in the VM and it works perfectly. Any ideas as to what I can do to fix the Linux version?

As a workaround for Linux I set Tools>Settings>File List>Custom Filter>Video to open with an associated program (VLC Media Player). This works well when selecting the mp4 from the thumbnail image, VLC opens and runs as expected, but when running an XnView slide show the mp4 is opened by XnView and hangs. Studying the XnViewMP .ini file I do not see an obvious entry for the slide show function to open the associated program. Where is the slideshow switch?

Thanks.

You are correct, if I try to open any mp4 file (from several different sources) using the XnViewMP player the player window opens in a new tab, the tool bars are shown (top row buttons, bottom movie progress slider, etc) but all controls are grayed out and the process stops. It does not appear to have crashed, as I can close the tab, or I can select the browser tab and everything (except the mp4 tab) is still running. I am able to open jpgs and even run a slide show with the frozen mp4 tab still in place, but if the slide show encounters an mp4 file another tab is launched and the process stops as described above. All mp4 files play without errors using the installed VLC Media Player (V2.2.2 Weatherwax).

Running;
Linux Lite 3.2 (Based on: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS).
XnViewMP, Version 0.83 x64 (Oct 3 2016), Libformat version 6.92

Very happy to send an mp4 sample. Is there a way to send a 52MB (34 second) file to you or do I find something within the 2MB attachment limit? 2MB would be a very short time duration...

Attached is a 2-second 1MB mp4 video file (SDV_0167.mp4.zip) with audio “mp4 test”. This file was taken directly from a Samsung model SMX-F50BN/XAA video camera. The Linux XnViewMP player will hang as described above and the Windows version plays it properly.
