Search result : Obstinate bug !

Post by Clo »

 Pierre

:) Hello !
- That thread is the continuation of this one, but in the right forum-section…
- There is still the same obstinate bug under Win 98 SE with 1.80.1 :(
• But it looks a bit different, like you can see below :

——————————————————Image

• Now, only the first upper rank is truncated, while the file-name label is set almost at the middle of each thumbnail…

- May I hope a fix for 1.81 ? :P

 Kind regards,
Claude

32-bit is worse !

Post by Clo »

>> ckv

:) Thank you to check !
- I performed another test with a 32-bit display : it's worse, we come back to the same kind of bug I reported to Pierre the last year with 1.74 !

- All thumb-nails are truncated (the most upper part) :(

- Pierre said he can't reproduce that bug under Win 98 SE, maybe he uses a 256-colour display ? :P

What font size do you use in windows - normal or large?

Clo, that other bug is still actual? If so I could move it here...

:) hello !

- I use always small fonts in Windows.

- Indeed, that bug is still there, since the 1.74 version…
- But I didn't start the thread during the RC-tests. ckv reported the bug and started the old topic, thinking it was a false size of the thumbnails (if I got him alright @ this time)…
¤ EDIT : I tested with a 256-colour display, not any progress, the bug is alive still, even worse since it comes back to the “1.74 one” look :(

- Like I said above, the snag is that Pierre couldn't reproduce that bug, so I continue some tests, and I guess that the topic is well located in the current <Bugs…> section. Just my opinion, of course.

Clo,

I think small font size in Win 98 is normal size in Win XP, it's 100%, 96DPI, right?
I guess that the topic is well located in the current <Bugs…> section.
But I mean the other bug you mentioned, this one, is it still actual? Can I move it here? Or is it duplicate and I could remove it?

:) Hello !
- Indeed, it's the same bug since 1.74, but it can look a bit different at display following the versions, and even the colour-depth used in the same version!

- You could move the whole old topic into that one, I guess, but like I said above, I didn't start this old topic myself… No problem for my own messages, please, move them.

 Kind regards,
Claude

OK, "old" topic moved to this "Bug" forum, you could post reply there, that it has not been fixed in v1.80.1...

What do you make exactly? I open xnview in browser mode, and use search dialog, and view result, but no problem on Win 98 SE (32bits)

No don't open browser (make sure that browser don't open on startup).
Yeah it works also with my system if I open the browser first and then make the search.
How about Clo. Do you get buggy thubnails with every search... Or what?

Heres how to reproduce
- Make sure that browser don't open on startup
- Make sure that browser view mode is Thumbnails
- Select in the menu Tools / Search
- Make Search and press view
= Thumbnails are bugging

Now when you change view mode you can see how the other view modes bug as well. Notice also that thumbnails don't have back color (if back color is set of course)

Hope this helps

Start View empty

Post by Clo »

:) Hello !

- I can confirm : that occurs following the steps described by ckv above !
- I start XnView in "View" mode always, with an empty main window (when launched from its icon on the Desktop, Win tool-bar or the TC button-bar).
- In browser mode, that works normally…

I am now using win2k on my computer and I can still reproduce this bug actually I can reproduce this bug also in winXP.

But I also have good news I now know what seems to cause this, at least on win2k. (clo could you test this in win98? I suspect that this don't fix it entirely in win98).

In the browser options the 'Startup Directory' option seems to cause this bug. I always like to set 'Startup Directory' to Specified and leave the directory blank. Because this is the only way to open folder tree in mode where no folders / drives are open, but when I use these options the Search result bug occurs.

Heres how to reproduce
- Use fresh ini
- In the browser options set 'Startup Directory' to Specified and leave the directory blank.
- restart XnView
- Make Search and press view
= Thumbnails are bugging

Good nose !

Post by Clo »

 ckv

:) Hello !

- Good nose ! You have smelt the right game bug !

- I did the opposite : I set another option for the “Start-Up Directory” than the “Specified ” Blank field I use, and the bug has gone !
- No need to set a new fresh INI !

• Hence, it seems that the bug is related to the lack of a start-up directory in the browser; this is not a specific issue of 1.80.1, since we had the bug in 1.74, while the (suppressed now) option : “Don't start thumbnails” was enabled here.

• There is no bug when I type simply C:\ as a specified start-up directory; but I get indeed the files in the drive root, that is boring for me.

• Anyway, like we say in French, there is a small Image in the program…

——————————————Pierre, please
:?:

- Thank you for that brainwave, good job !

Claude
