0.79 MacOS: strange colors in thumbnails

Using version 0.79 x64 (Mar 22 2016) on Mac OS X 10.11.5

With the latest version I experience some odd behavior: As soon as an image ist wider than ~8.000 pixels, the thumbnails are displayed with false colors as shown in the attached screenshot:

How can I send a 650 MB TIFF file?
