0.83: File order (e.g. EXIF date) not in picture view

Post by bege »

Hi,
I select EXIF date as file order in browser view. Browser view shows files in that order. If I now go through that folder in picture view with forward or backward buttons, the file order is by file name, not by EXIF date.

Could you please send me a folder with 3 sample files that show the problem?
Pierre.

Seems to work... however I found again glitches like in http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=35015 . Definitely there is a weak point in Viewer's navigation arrows.

Unfortunately here it is not fixed because Pierre could not reproduce the problem.

But in our e-mail correspondence I found out some more about this problem here:
As described already: Show contents of a folder in browser view, sort by EXIF date.
Then open a file with double click and go through that folder in picture view with forward or backward buttons, the file order is by file name, not by EXIF date.
But if I open a file with context menu -> open and go through that folder in picture view with forward or backward buttons, the file order is by EXIF date as it shall be.

Can someone else reproduce that behavior? (XnView 0.84 x64, Windows 7 Professional 64 bit SP1)

Additionally I notice this: Next to "Open" in context menu of browser view it shows the shortcut Ctrl+O. But Ctrl+O is not the same as opening the file in picture view. If I use Ctrl+O in browser view nothing happens. If I use it in picture view the "open file" dialog window of Windows shows up (same as in main menu File -> open). So I think that the shortcut Ctrl+O should be removed from the context menu of browser view.

I've tried to reproduce your problem but failed: Viewer (view mode) uses the EXIF sort order as expected. I've screen recorded my steps: topic_bege_34149.wmv

Hmm, I'm not sure whether this is really bug. bege, could you please create a new topic for this using the bug report template? There this can be further discussed.

That's exactly what Pierre experienced even with my ini-file. Here it is still the same as described. :?:

Thank you for your reply, bege.

Current status is:
- Pierre doesn't remember and thinks that this has been fixed.
- You (bege) tested and found that it's not fixed.
- I (helmut) cannot reproduce it.

Could you please provide more details that might help to reproduce the problem? Could you please try and start with a clean program configuration, see topic MP: How to reset program configuration.

Now it's crazy:
If I click the first or last file the order in picture view is correct now. If I click any file in between and then use forward/backward buttons the next file (sometimes also next two) is sorted by name then switches to EXIF date order. In some cases forward/backward stops at the first file (by EXIF date, last by name) and only the backward button remains active so that going through the file isn't possble any more.

Thank you for trying, bege. Sounds like a strange problem.

- Which OS (Windows, Linux) do you use?
- What is the format of your files(*.jpg, *.png, ...) in the folder? How many files are in the folder?
- Could you perhaps provide three files which cause the problem so that we can reproduce?

I am sorry that I can give you only a short answer for now, because I will be out of town from tomorrow for a week.
- Windows 7 professional 64-bit
- The problems occurs with any folder with any jpg files from the two cameras I have (Panasonic and Canon).
