Various bugs and feature wishlist

Post by phaolo »

Hi,
I tested a bit v0.84 and I have to report some bugs and ask about some features (if possible).

---

BROWSER MODE

1. Can you keep the interface panels % size consistent in both maximixed and windowed mode?
For example:
--a- I use 3 vertical panels (folders+preview+list) at like 25%-50%-25% at 100% of the screen.
--b- if I "restore down" to a 50% width window, the ratios become like 35%-60%-5% (unusable unless I resize it every time).
--c- if I don't modify anything and maximize again, the ratios become like 15%-40%-45% (WTF?).

2. File "View as" "Thumbnails+filenames" problem:
- long filenames become unreadable, because the label text is centered, instead of being aligned left or wrapped.

3. File "View as" "details", showing the "Comment" column:
- if an image contains some specific text in the comment (carriage return?), then each file line in the folder will become taller than the default size by various times.

4. Multiple file renaming dialog:

- the ENTER key should push the "OK" button, not go to the previous used template!

- I use the "create new name template when opening dialog" option, because it grabs the current selected image filename.
However, I don't need the old templates. Can their number be configurable? (I'd keep it at 0 or at a minimum)

5. Preview:
- I keep the default zoom at "fit to window, large only".
Shouldn't the image in this state be fixed and "unmovable"?
If I click on it, instead, the pic zooms in for some reason and becomes movable.
EDIT: maybe this isn't too bad.. it could actually be useful?

VIEW MODE

6. Editing, "Crop" profiles problems on some images:
- ratios seems swapped. For example, 4:3 creates a 3:4 area.
- some pixel measures aren't applied correctly. For example, 720x1280px (9:16) has become 2276x1280px.
- common default pixel resolutions are missing. For example, 1920x1080,2560x1440, etc..
- you cannot name them. For example: 640x480 (4:3 SD), 1280x720 (16:9 HD), etc..

7. Editing in general:
- can you add an option to allow only "Save as"?

VARIOUS

8. The program has some kind of random problem with the file list.. it's like it's not refreshing properly.
Example:
--a- open a folder containing various images, sorted by name, in "Details" view and starting with different letters (e.g: Axxx,Bxxx,Oxxx,Zxxx).
--b- rename the start of a file (Bxxx -> Pxxx). Click ENTER to confirm.
--c- don't click anywhere else, but just refresh with F5. (the list becomes: Axxx,Oxxx,Pxxx,Zxxx)
--d- press ENTER to check the file in the viewer.
--e- move to a previous image (I scroll the mouse wheel up).
--f- you should see "Oxxx", but sometimes you'll see "Axxx" instead! (the position before the renaming)

9. Main toolbar:

- can you add more icons? (maybe customizable?)
For example, I'd wish there was a Zoom-like icon for "no fit" and "fit to window, large only".

- can you rename similar icons, so they stay grouped in the list?
For example:
"Fit - no fit" and "Fit- window, large only".
"Browse - Back", "Browse - Forward", "Browse - Up"
Etc..

- what's the difference between "1:1" and "No fit"?
Sometimes I have to click both icons to see the non-scaled image.

10. Can you also let us customize these toolbars?
- filelist toolbar (e.g: I don't need the Thumb resizer there).
- status bar (e.g: I'd like the DPI there).

11. Mouse button function. Can you add this:
- middle button -> swap from current view to fullscreen (and back).

---

Can you check these, please?
Thanks

Thanks a lot for the long list!

Please break it down in multiple posts - each bug separately in http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewforum.php?f=62 and each suggestion in http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewforum.php?f=60 because many of your topics need discussion and it is almost impossible to discuss all of them together.

Thank you, phaolo. Creating all the individual topics is some effort but it will make handling your issues much easier. :) (Good that you to use the bug report template in http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=27835 already)

Can I at least post together the suggestions? (in the correct subforum)

Thank you very much for splitting up your bug reports, phaolo. As written above this will make bug handling much easier; you'll notice this yourself, soon. With the suggestions it's basically the same: If several suggestions belong to a specific dialog or functionality, then you can bundle all these suggestions. In case of doubt it's always easier to handle seperate topics.

Please note that for some of your above suggetions there are topics around, already. It would be good if you searched the forum first and then posted in existing topics rather than starting new ones. An example:
phaolo wrote:- can you rename similar icons, so they stay grouped in the list?
For example:
"Fit - no fit" and "Fit- window, large only".
"Browse - Back", "Browse - Forward", "Browse - Up"
From what I can see this matter is discussed in topic Assigning functions to toolbar. In case you cannot find an existing topic quickly please do not hesitate to start a new one - your input and suggestions are valuable.
