Batch Renaming: limit old templates

I often use Batch Renaming to auto-number images.
I keep the "create new name template when opening dialog" option enabled, because it grabs the selected image filename.

However, I don't need the old templates (that continue growing, until I manually clear them with the button).
Can their number be configurable? (I'd keep it at 0 or at a minimum)

Sure. It needs a variable and this variable should be surfaced on GUI (Tools | Settings etc.)
