0.86: Batch encoding of Lumix RW2 [Linux/Mac]

Post by NGC-Ollie »

Subject: 0.86: Batch encoding of Lumix RW2 [Linux/Mac]

XnView: MP 0.86 - 64 bit
OS: Linux / Mac 64bit

We have a Panasonic Lumix G6 with firmware 1.2 which saves in RW2 format and we need to create JPG or TIF (preferred) files. We have two computers, one on MacOS 10.11.6 (my wife) and my up2date ubuntu 17.4, both show the same behaviour with XnView MP 0.86.

Effect: Output of batch converting has a different size in pixels.

To reproduce:
  1. Get some RW2 files in different orientations and with more than 1920×1440px
  2. Open batch job dialogue [CTRL + U] and add all files
  3. Ensure that no additional steps are added, just choose TIFF or JPG as output format
  4. Start batch job
  5. Compare pic sizes.
Actual behaviour (bug): In my case: original RW2 4624×3472 px ; TIFF 1920×1440 px :bug:

Expected behaviour: original RW2 4624×3472 px ; TIFF 4624×3472 px

Just in case I missed something, sorry. I used the search, I'm not familiar with all options in the batch job dialogue, I'll test some different things if you need some. It's not possible to add one or two example files, if you need them, give me a hint, the files are 20 MB each.

I'm not very familiar with RAW, but have you looked at the Settings tab > Load format settings... options, which may be relevant to the pixel dimensions of the converted files?

Good point, I didn't mention that, thanks.

I'm not sure whether the Camera RAW, or possibly the RAW tab, is relevant in your case, but you have the Camera RAW tab set to Full size and, if relevant, the RAW tab set to your desired pixel dimensions?

Possibly a bug, in which case could you upload an example file to a file hosting service and post a link (or if the file is confidential, if possible send the link directly to Pierre) unless someone comes up with an explanation soon?

I wasn't sure about the tab, too, but you did it, thank you! Explanations and questions:
  1. For RW2, the Camera RAW tab is relevant…
  2. …and I missed the full size parameter hidden behind the drop down menu, sorry for that.
  3. IMHO Use embedded preview is a wrong default value, please change it to full size if there's no other reason.
  4. The Raw tab doesn't change anything, is this intended?
I'm very grateful for your help, now my computer will convert a lot of pictures in the night 8)

Camera RAW and RAW:

Camera RAW [naturally] refers to files output from a camera, in one of many possible formats with different extensions [many supported by XnView software] as described in the Wikipedia page Raw image format.

But in XnView MP does the file settings tab 'RAW' refer to files with the extension .raw as described by the Wikipedia page Mass spectrometry data format ??

If so, that tab is clearly not relevant to camera raw...

Can anyone give some background on that, and if needed the correct use of the two tabs?
