Force rescan of a directory/drive?

Post by monitor »

Recently, I had to change drive letters on one of my main hard drives with loads of pictures.
XnViewMP(XP) had these indexed and some had metadata added and/or were added to specific categories.

When I open XP now, I can find images assigned to a specific category, XP shows the thumbnail and the nonexistent path, but nothing else.

Is there a way to force XP to rescan this particular drive and will this rescan, if it is possible keep everything except the paths?

you can use Settings>Catalog>Relocate to change path/drive of the folder in the catalog

Thank you for that information, though in my case, with a rather large percentage of the data in this large and deep tree, it is very tedious, time consuming and thus very error prone :-(

Aside from that and, at least in my case, it would be helpful if the 'relocate' dialog would remember its size between invocations - at least for the current app's lifetime, and/or if the focus & cursor were set to the start of the new location.

What would have been lost if I had simply deleted the whole drive from the catalog and then added the new drive?

Rating/label/categories if you save them in catalog.

The paths can be changed too with sqlitebrowser (i can do it for you)

You mean, all the additional data I might have added only to the DB would be lost, but if I had saved it also to metadata inside the image files, it would have survived, or, at least I, or rather XnViewMP, would be able to recover the data.

In that case I don't think I would have lost or lose anything important if I did just that since I do save the categories to the image files.

Thank you for the offer. Most likely I won't have to take you up on it, though ;-)
I just had a look using the Firefox Sqlite Browser plugin.

Presumably I would have to change the Pathname in the Folders table, either manually or using some sort of SQL incantations - which I am not familiar or comfortable with at all.
However it does give me a better and more concise overview about which folders are still affected and so will make it easier for me to decide which way to go. :D

Right, if you save them in metadata
