How do you close the dialog? :)

By pressing "Cancel"?
The settings are preserved.

By pressing the red [x] (close button) in top-right corner of the dialog's title bar?
The settings are NOT preserved.

:)

Yes - because:

1. Windows & Linux (at least Ubuntu / Mint) sez so. Nowadays for settings there isn't 'Ok/Apply' button anymore. When someone changes a setting, the setting is persisted automatically. "Ok/Cancel" are only for actions: "do" or "do not" a certain action.

2. If the "Cancel" button saves settings (a strong negative button/message) then how much more the "Close" (a neutral message) should do it?

there is already a thread about Cancel/Close, and it seems that windows use always 'Cancel'

IMHO it seems that I wasn't very clear: my point is that Win10 and Linux (Gnome/Unity at least) save the settings when the user press this button:
Screen-2018-02-13_10-15-22.jpg
In order to see go to, for example, in Win10 to „Settings | Power (Sleep options)” - you will see a dialog without any button just the „X” pictured above.
If you change a setting there (try it, it will not harm a lot) and close the window by pressing the „X” the settings will be saved. This is (unfortunately or not) the standard behavior today.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
