EXIF read errors when another program writes a .jpg?

I wonder if anyone else has Arcsoft Photosuite and can duplicate this error? (And forgive me, Pierre, for even bringing Irfanview up, but in this case I didn't have anything else to use for discussion).

I was testing if Photosuite, which came with my new camera, would keep or strip EXIF information. I took one of my camera images, resized it, (the image posted), and opened the new image with both Irfanview and XnView, since they read EXIF info. With Xnview, however, when clicking on either Edit>Properties or the ? mark on my toolbar, XnView hesitates for perhaps 10 seconds, and then an error message appears.

My guess is that Arcsoft has changed the EXIF? Look at the ISO, or the Contrast, Saturation, and Sharpness values. I'm no expert, but that's obviously not a legitimate ISO number. :)

Oh well, I post the resized image. Perhaps you can "take apart" the image and see the problem?

I'm using 1.74

:) Hello !
I can't read French. 8)

• Well, well ! marsh, you sly thing! :D

- In brief :
¤ Some JPEG images caused a pretty crash when calling Properties >> EXIF, while the pics could be displayed alright…

¤ Some EXIF data in those images were false, and caused that crash. The oddest thing is that occured too for the reduced version shown on the message, because XnView kept these data very conscientiously ! :P
¤ I'd checked that about the GPF, it seems really the same than here…

 Kind regards,
Claude

Yep ! Huge storm ! I turn off all ! Bye !

Thanks, Clo.

In over a year, maybe more, I'd never had a lockup until I tried to open up that image modified with Arcsoft. So I understand that other programs can alter the EXIF (?) and XnView has a problem with that. Actually I don't have or use use very many other image programs, just enough to work with cloning or transparencies. XnView is my favorite. (Best crop tool around).
