Slide Show Load Times - Large Volume of Files

Post by sawdusk »

Huge fan of this program, and am a heavy user of the slide show function. One thing I have never been able to figure out, and I apologize if this is already known (I searched and could not find anything), but is there any way to speed up the load time of a slide show? I frequently have a need to show a very large volume of files on the slide show, but it can take over 12 hours to load this volume of files.

Also, is there a way of selecting multiple folders/sub folders when creating a slide show?

Thanks and take care.

12h???? how many files do you have in the .sld?

you can't only add them one by one, or using a .sld

Thank you for the reply, Pierre. It is a huge volume of files (within folders). It runs throughout the weekend or several in a general viewing area in a random order. Users in the area can submit pics and see theirs or others in the slide show. I suppose there is not a way of saving a slide show (even if the size of the file is very large) or altering the method of loading that would speed up the load times?

Thanks again and take care.

Yes, since there are so many folders involved, a .sld file is created and then loaded, adding onto the .sld file with new folders when need be.

I have tried creating a single folder to load with all the files and also many smaller folders but the load time (since the number of actual files remains the same) has not changed.

Thanks again.

so you have only that line (recursive), and when you load it, it takes very long time, right?
how many files do you have in this folder (and subfolder)?

Thanks, Pierre.

Yes, I have tried just creating an .sld with the one folder (letting the program detect all the sub-folders) and creating a .sld with each sub-folder listed separately, but the load times did not vary.

The volume is massive. 4,500 sub-folders takes about 12 hours to load. The full 9,000 takes 24 hours. I understand this is much larger than standard slide shows, but was just checking if there was any settings or tricks I was missing to increase the load time, or if the slide show could be saved on an external hard-drive, "pre-loaded", and started instantly from there.

Thanks again and take care.

the delay is when you start the slideshow (slideshow dialog), right?
I've tried with 1000 subfolders, but wait only 2 seconds. How many files in your 4500 folders?

yes, the delay is when I press "go" on the slide show application. each folder has about 1000-2000 files in them, averaging 500mb per folder.

thanks!
