Maybe this is not exactly a bug, but it is undesired behavior (for me). To reproduce it, follow these steps:
1. Create the following files in the following directory structure:
/a/a.jpg
/a/b1/b1.jpg
/a/b2/b2.jpg
2. In XnView MP, go to Preferences > Interface > Switching mode and configure Use double click to switch between: Browser <> Viewer.
3. Open the picture a.jpg
4. Go to the Browser.
5. In the Browser, click the button "Show files in subfolder". As a result, a.jpg, b1.jpg, and b2.jpg will be shown in the Browser.
6. Double click the picture b1.jpg in the Browser. As a result, b1.jpg will be shown in the Viewer.
7. In the Viewer, double click the picture b1.jpg.
Expected result: a.jpg, b1.jpg, and b2.jpg will be shown in the Browser.
Actual result: Only b1.jpg will be shown in the Browser.
Using XnView MP 0.93.1 on Mac OS.

currently it's the behavior, return to browser will change folder of viewed image. Else you have ESC to close viewer

Ok, pressing ESC is an acceptable workaround. Topic can be closed.
