Exif/XMP independent rating

Post by 0x4243 »

Hi everybody,

I'm searching for a way to rate images with XNView (MP) with stars and/or color lables without getting a rating from the original images via exif/xmp.

From time to time I have to sort/rate images that already contain the standard star-rating and/or color labes. I want to ignore what's stored in the image file and create my own rating.
There is no requirement to export this rating to the file.

I think, XNView (classic) could do that with its own database. Is there a way to have the same feature in XNViewMP??

Thanks,
Christian

I think you only need to deselect all the checkboxes in "Settings, metadata", so that XnViewMP does not read or write any metadata, and works with its database ...
You can also add starring buttons in the toolbar.

Later, you can create a backup in a xml file for these stars/ color labels (in categories pane, small arrow below title bar: file's categories : export)

I already disabled all options but still see the star rating and color label that's stored in the file.

You are right...
In folders that have been browsed, star rating and color labels are read, and added in db.
It seems there is no way to avoid this in XnViewMP

Currently there is no setting to disable reading rating metadata
