XnView only access OS drive [Linux]

Post by alan lacey »

I've just installed XnView on a couple of my Linux Mint (19.1) machines and was so grateful at last to find a Linux replacement image browser as good as FastStone on Windows.

BUT on neither machine could XnView access drives other than the one the OS is on. On one machine another drive is in: /media/alan/
and the other has another internal drive in: /mnt/alan/ Neither is available in XnView's navigator and when I try to enter the path in the folder entry position above it just says 'This folder doesn't exist' I can find it easily enough in terminal and Geeqie, which was my image browser before I discovered XnView.

XnView is great, probably a bit overkill for my needs with all the DB stuff, but sadly useless for me if it can't access any other drives. What am I doing wrong?

XnView was loaded as Flatpack:

/usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=xnview --file-forwarding com.xnview.XnViewMP @@ %F @@

This has been a known issue for some time, and I'm not sure to what extent Pierre has been able to resolve it... :?:

If you have installed the Flatpak version, note that currently the download is the 0.93.1 version, rather than the indicated current 0.96.2 version.

In Mint 19.3 Cinnamon using the 0.96.2 AppImages version, I can see an attached USB memory in the file browser tree, but it is not displayed when using the viewer File > Open... option. :(

With the 0.93.1 Flatpak version above, the USB memory is not displayed in the browser or the viewer.

Thanks Cday. Got it sorted by uninstalling then finding an AppImage which works as expected and finds the relevant folders. I'm very pleased as XnView is just what I was after.

External memory visible in the viewer File open... as well as in the browser file tree?

Is that 'Yes' ?

If so, I had better take another look myself at the viewer/editor File > Open...

Thanks, I found my drive but in the viewer it's necessary to drill well down to see the drive, whereas in the browser it is immediately visible in an expanded tree... :(

One quirk: an external drive that is no longer attached is also displayed!
