Hello all,
I'm looking for some help here. I want to use XNview to add categories to my images. I think I don't really understand category sets and I wonder if there are any resources that explain them? When I have the pane open I can hit the little plus button to create a new set for example Landscapes. If I then hit manager I can add sets. So far so good. So I go to landscapes from the drop-down and I see the sets and I have added (for example rural, urban and so forth) and belief all of those headings I see categories such as rural exploration, trees, grass, sunshine et cetera et cetera. I then add a second category set which I call People. I then do the same with that category, adding sets and categories to those sets. But once I've done that if I switch between different categories sets via the drop-down at the top of the pane I do not find that the sets in each pain a different. So I go to people and I still see rural landscapes and so forth below. Please see screenshot attached. What I would have expected would be to be able to select a picture of a person and select people from the drop-down in category sets and have only the sets of categories show up that are related people. Am I misunderstanding? I wish there was some rather better documentation on this program that would help me with this.
Thanks very much for any help that anyone can offer.
Phil

Re: Category sets
"Categories" is a tool that allows fast tagging, filtering, and writing iptc or xmp keywords.
But if you have a lot of categories, it's painful to scroll, or expand subcategories when tagging.
"Categories sets" in XnViewMp is a way to show only some categories if you have hundreds, it saves time.
Example, you are tagging people in your family, you can create a set "family" to show only these persons.
One click on a button for each person, it's done.
You don't need to create a parent category if you don't want to use the keyword "family".
With some other softwares, you must create a parent keyword ("family"), and set it as a "non writable keyword"

Re: Category sets
Thanks for this but I'm seeing it as only enabling me to order the sets and have some open and some closed (expanded, I guess) but not able to actually hide sets so if I have my People categor set open the still life set still shows up but down the bottom. It's not a big deal and I guess could be useful?
