Removing metadata for animated GIF creates non-animated GIF
Not sure whether this is a bug or a feature - but a bad surprise!
Re: Removing metadata for animated GIF creates non-animated GIF
Here are the metadata from a random animated gif, via ExifTool:
I believe without these instructions one can not expect the image viewer to be able to display the animation.
Code: Select all
---- GIF ----
GIF Version : 89a
Image Width : 400
Image Height : 206
Has Color Map : Yes
Color Resolution Depth : 8
Bits Per Pixel : 7
Background Color : 127
Animation Iterations : Infinite
Frame Count : 56
Duration : 2.24 s
Re: Removing metadata for animated GIF creates non-animated GIF
I understand. BUT: the GIF is after the operation smaller than before - i assume it contains only frame 1. That means that not only metadata were removed but frames 2+ too. And this is not a wanted behaviour.

Sorry for my useless answer.
If I my asks, how did you delete metadata from the animated gif, using XnViewMP?

Re: Removing metadata for animated GIF creates non-animated GIF
Tools - Batch convert - Actions: Clean meta data - all checkboxes activated
Re: Removing metadata for animated GIF creates non-animated GIF
This way, I can't get a working animation, even without cleaning anything.
Re: Removing metadata for animated GIF creates non-animated GIF
Right. As a workaround i will exclude GIF files from my workstream. A better solution would work with animated GIFs correctly.
