Zooming in and out smoothly by little steps (1 %, 2 %, 3 %, etc.) in fullscreen mode by wheeling the mouse wheel?

Post by Elk »

How could one zoom in and out not step-wise (50 %, 100 %, 150 %, etc.) but smoothly / in little steps (1 %, 2 %, 3 %, etc.) in fullscreen mode by wheeling the mouse wheel?

Zooming in and out smoothly by little steps (1 %, 2 %, 3 %, etc.) in fullscreen mode by wheeling the mouse wheel?

Have you experimented with the zoom step options available in Tools > Settings > View -- View tab, which should allow quite small steps?

But those options presumably apply in normal and fullscreen modes, I haven't checked, so if you need different size steps in different view modes that would probably require a new option to be added.

Yes, I did, but no changes. What option is it? I have tried this one:

Does one have to restart XnView to take effect?

That would be good as well.

I've had a quick look and tried setting Zoom step -- Relative step to 1.01 (that is 1% steps) I can zoom in with fine steps, and Zoom step -- Fixed step to 0.01 and I can zoom in and out, operates the same way in both view modes.

Those may be near the limits of the step sizes that operate satisfactorily, and my tests were quick tests simply to confirm that you should be able to get close to the operation you need, you should be prepared to experiment a bit... :D

You are using a comma not a decimal point, try 1.01 which works for me... :D

I cannot add point there, when I press the point key nothing happens. Is there another key to use for that point? The comma is inserted by XnView automatically. When I enter "1" it automatically adds a comma and zeros when I click the upwards arrow or the down one, e.g. 3,00000000. This was the default value: 1,41421356

Interesting, I can't enter a comma, that looks like localisation to reflect British and American usage or European usage.

Another idea: in Tools > Settings > Interface -- Mouse tab do you have actually have zooming on the mouse wheel (or Ctrl + mouse wheel) enabled?

That looks correct:

Does zooming using the mouse work with the default step size?

Can you change the zoom step size value at all?

Are you sure that your mouse wheel is working?

If not, which XnView MP version are you using, possibly a bug that has been introduced although that seems unlikely?

No matter what value it says the steps seem to always be the same. Whether with or without pressing CTRL.

Yes yes, but I cannot see any effect on this...ah, now I have an effect with this:

With "relative" I cannot see a difference in the step wide.

Ah no, now it is gone again. No effect anymore. The same like it was before.

You're sure your mouse wheel is working correctly and doesn't, maybe, have an intermittent fault?

Do you have another mouse?

No, I am not, but until now I could not find any problems with it.

Unfortunately I do not, it is the only working mouse here. But it is the same with the touchpad. May be the touchpad is not included in that option.

Difficult then, I would test the mouse wheel in other applications, and if necessary try to obtain another mouse.

In the View menu you have zoom options using keyboard + and - which might be worth testing, and as they should use the same zoom settings might provide a temporary solution
