Update of changed image informations
Hello!
I assign categories in XnView. It is often necessary to rename images later or move them to a different storage location. I do this usually outside of XnView.
How is the correct procedure to make the images available again for XnView (thumbnail view, category view)? Do I have to know which images have been changed or can I initiate a complete re-import?

Re: Update of changed image informations
I use "Ansicht / Katalog aus Dateien aktualisieren" right?
The progress bar informs me of 245 updates. So many pictures should be in the main directory. How do I trigger the update of all sub-folders too?
Thanks for all help!

Re: Update of changed image informations
But what ist "relocate"? Im using the german Version. In "Einstellungen/Katalog" I have
"Alle löschen", "Miniaturbilder neu erstellen", "Optimieren" and "Ordner hinzufügen".
"Optimieren (Katalogwartung)" has "Datenbank optimieren", "Daten von leeren Verzeichnissen löschen", "Miniaturbilder löschen", "Daten von Dateien löschen" and then "Daten von verwaisen Verzeichnissen löschen", "Daten von verwaisten Dateien löschen".
There is no "relocate".

Re: Update of changed image informations
I see, I can use "relocate" to specify a new path if I
1. have moved a folder and
2. still know which one I have moved.
What about images whose name has been changed, but which are still in the same location?
My problem was different:
I rename (not only move) images (and folders too) outside from XnView. How is the correct procedure to make the images available again for XnView (thumbnail view, category view)? How can I initiate a complete re-import?
Or I need some help to solve my error code.

Re: Update of changed image informations
Maybe you can find a method in my xnviewmp web page, using Google translation... Link below. How can I initiate a complete re-import?
First, be sure that keywords are written in photos metadata

Re: Update of changed image informations
if you have renamed images outside XnView, you can't re associate them if you don't use XMP metadata

Re: Update of changed image informations
Hello again!
Unfortunately, my question is still open.
How can I update the xnview-catalog from all the existing images?
The update should include:
1. (changed) Filenames & -locations
2. Categories (they are maintained as XMP metadata and appear also in other image viewing programs).
I hope, you can help me because this function is a basic requirement for me to switch my image management completely to xnview.

Re: Update of changed image informations
Not (only) new one
but also (outside of xnview) changed one (name, location).
If the latter are treated as "new", the information that is already in the catalog is retained. So I am asking for a full catalog update.

you can check folders in catalog for new/changed files by using catalog>Check foldersMichaelP wrote: Mon Jan 04, 2021 5:54 pm Not (only) new one

I understand MichaelP to be asking how to create a completely new catalog to replace the existing catalog...
