Ghostscript not found

Post by frednexus »

Hello

I make an update of XnView MP and Ghostscript and now Ghostscript is no more found by Xnview MP

Update procedure

Uninstall Ghostscript 9.27
CCleaner to remove old Ghostscript entries
update of XnView MP Version 0.95 to Version 0.96.5 64bits (Aug 17 2020)
Install gs9530w64.exe and gs9530w32.exe just in case of...
Reboot
...
Ghostscript is not found by Xnview MP?

Is there a way to enter the Ghostscript path in the xnview.ini?

System:
Windows 7 X64 SP1
XnView MP Windows Version 0.96.5 64bits (Aug 17 2020)
Ghostscript 9.53.0 for Windows (64 bit)
Ghostscript 9.53.0 for Windows (32 bit)
Best Regards

If you wish to test earlier Ghostscript versions, they can be downloaded from the normal download page Ghostscript versions.

Note that a change in a quite recent Ghostscript version required, I believe, a change in the XnView code, details of the version concerned in one of my posts, so it would probably only be worth testing very recent versions, assuming the issue is with Ghostscript 95.3 rather than XnView MP, unless there has been a regression in 'MP.

Xnview software uses the environment variable created by the installer, I believe...

Hello @cday

I test "XnView MP Version 0.96.5 64bits" with

Ghostscript 9.53.0 Not found

Ghostscript 9.52 > "File can't be loaded!" until the all thumbnails are generated.
The issue it's that the first 30% are generated very quickly then the 70% take a long long time. :?
Direct click on a Illustrator file via "Total Commander" open the last folder used but not the file. :bug:

Ghostscript 9.51 Same issue than 9.52

In both case the Illustrator or PNG thumbnails files do not use the checkboard pattern, white design on transparent background = full white thumbnails...

Anyway, this problem is half resolved because the XnView MP + Ghostscript couple does not provide a pleasant environment to use with Illustrator or PNG files. :?

A small tips for people who may encounter the same issue.
Registry keys
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GPL Ghostscript]
and
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GPL Ghostscript]
must be manually deleted before any new Ghostscript install.
CCleaner do not do it.

Hi Pierre,

I installed XnView MP (XnView MP Windows Version 0.98.2 64bits (Feb 19 2021)).

Some days later I installed Ghostscript 9.54.0 for Windows (64 bit). Even after a restart (Windows 10 Pro Version 20H2 (Build 19042.867)) no thumbnails of PDF files are displayed. When opening PDF files it shows the same error message as if gs is not installed at all.

So I guess XnView MP just doesn't find the path.

The path to gs is "C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.54.0", the settings path for the XnView MP ini file is "C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\XnViewMP".
